A bassist for over 15 years, I got my start in the elementary school orchestra (support the arts in public schools!) and since going pro, have played in many different configurations. Currently, I play bass for Events Are Objects and for Gordon Stone. Stone's new CD, Nightshade, released in May 2009 and recorded at Phish's Barn studio, include contributing artists Page McConnell of Phish on Hammond organ, Erik Lawrence of the Levon Helm band on baritone and tenor saxophone and Caleb Bronz on drums.
Events Are Objects is my newest project based out of Burlington, Vt. Comprised of 4 seasoned artists, we've been playing throughout the northeast region for the last 5 months. Check out a show or suggest a venue in your area. See the "Band" page for more info in EAO!
I am available for live performances, studio and acoustic sessions, and lessons. Call 518-424-9626 or use the contact form.

Dragonfly Physics, You Are the TargetAlbum Review
"The album opens on “Broken Bottles.” Lead songwriter Dev Jana, a recent transplant from Phoenix, Ariz., lays bare the first of an unwieldy assortment of formative influences. ... the song’s general aesthetic recalls the frayed-flannel infusion from the Pacific Northwest in the 1990s. Beneath Jana’s apathetic angst, bassist Jon McCartan (Events Are Objects) lays down a subtle groove that presages the funkier intentions on the following song, “No Reasoning.”

Times Argus.com. Reviewing Gordon Stone Release, "Nightshade"
By ART EDELSTEIN Arts Correspondent - Published: August 14, 2009
"...Night Shade" is not a solo work. Stone, a well-respected musical figure, surrounds himself with several talented musicians including Jon McCartan on bass, Erik Lawrence on sax, Phish's Page McConnell on B3 Hammond organ and six drummers and percussionists. Stone also contributes electric and acoustic guitar work and piano to this CD. The fullness of sound brings us Stone's musical vision in a band setting that alternately rocks or sizzles with a variety of palpable exotic beats."

"…the fact remains Nightshade is a remarkable album. It’s not just the superior quality of playing...nor the attention to detail in the arrangements…or even the cavalcade of stars gracing the album-Page McConnell, John (Jon) McCartan, Erik Lawrence, etc. It is all of things and none of them."
2007
"Gordon Stone accompanied by Jon McCartan on bass and Vinnie Amico on djembe. Stone has an uncanny ability to find great young bass players and McCartan was no exception. Playing upright, his notes were sure and comforting-Amico had a big smile on his face."
